Rajasthan Royals' Record-Breaking Chase
In a remarkable display of batting, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) successfully chased down a daunting target of 210 runs against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in just 15.5 overs. This achievement marks the fastest completion of a 200-plus run chase in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
This new record surpasses the previous one held by Royal Challengers Bangalore, who managed to chase 207 runs in 16 overs against the same team in Ahmedabad in 2024. Prior to that, the Mumbai Indians had completed a 200-plus chase in 16.3 overs against RCB in 2023, while the Delhi Capitals achieved 209 runs in 17.3 overs against Gujarat Lions in 2017. The Mumbai Indians also had an 18-over chase of 201 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023.
This latest chase marks the fourth time Rajasthan Royals have successfully chased a total exceeding 200 runs in the IPL. Their previous successful chases include 224 runs against Punjab Kings in Sharjah in 2020, another 224 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024, and 215 runs against the now-defunct Deccan Chargers in Hyderabad back in 2008. The 210-run chase against GT now joins this prestigious list.
Additionally, this chase set a new record for the highest target successfully chased against Gujarat Titans, surpassing the previous record of 205 runs achieved by Kolkata Knight Riders in Ahmedabad in 2023. It is also noteworthy that this is only the second time a 200-plus chase has been completed in Jaipur, following Sunrisers Hyderabad's thrilling last-ball chase of 215 runs against Rajasthan Royals in 2023.
Rajasthan Royals showcased an impressive run rate of 13.38 during this chase, which is the second-best for any successful 200-plus run chase in IPL history. The only higher run rate belongs to Punjab Kings, who achieved a remarkable 14.03 during their chase of 262 runs in Kolkata last year.
Fans were treated to an outstanding performance by Vaibhav, who scored 101 runs off just 38 balls, hitting seven fours and 11 sixes, achieving a strike rate of 265.79. He reached his century in just 35 balls, making it the second-fastest century in IPL history, trailing only Chris Gayle's 30-ball century against Pune Warriors India in 2013. Vaibhav is now recognized as the fastest Indian to score a century in the IPL.
In the match, GT batted first, with notable contributions from skipper Shubman Gill, who scored 84 runs off 50 balls, and Jos Buttler, who added 50 runs off 26 balls. GT finished their innings at 209/4 in 20 overs, with Maheesh Theekshana being the standout bowler for RR, taking 2 wickets for 35 runs.
During the chase, Jaiswal contributed significantly with an unbeaten 70 runs off 40 balls, while Vaibhav's explosive innings led to a rapid 166-run partnership in just 71 balls. Riyan Parag also played a crucial role, scoring 32 runs off 15 balls to help secure the victory in 15.5 overs.
Currently, RR sits in eighth place with three wins and seven losses, totaling six points, while GT is in third place with six wins and three losses, accumulating 12 points.
